Keyword research is how you stop guessing what to write about. Instead of publishing into the void, you create pages for the exact phrases your customers search — and you prioritize the ones you can actually rank for.
Start with seed topics
List the broad themes around your product. A bakery might start with “sourdough,” “wedding cakes” and “gluten-free.” These seeds expand into hundreds of real queries.
Understand search intent
Every query has an intent: informational (“how to”), commercial (“best…”), or transactional (“buy…”). Match your page to the intent — a how-to article won't rank for a buy query, and vice versa.
Balance volume and difficulty
High-volume keywords are tempting but brutally competitive. Long-tail phrases (“gluten-free sourdough delivery in Austin”) have less traffic each but convert better and are far easier to win — especially for a newer site.
Turn keywords into a plan
Group related queries into one page each, map them to your funnel, and schedule the content. Then promote each piece across your social channels to kick-start traffic while search rankings build.
